Primary School Phase Aims

The aim of this study is to follow the development of children with Tuberous Sclerosis (aged 6-11 years) to better understand the condition and how it affects development, specifically their academic ability and outcomes. As the infant and preschool phases have now closed, we are planning to continue the study to assess development and behaviour in children with TSC and typically developing children, to understand changes over childhood and how earlier abilities predict outcomes (e.g. social communication, attention and cognitive ability).

Primary School Phase Assessments

The primary school phase will involve a range of assessments which we aim to be carried out in the family home, online and in schools. Our team is currently collaborating to develop specific assessments, some of which will be repeated from our previous phases. We will soon begin recruitment and data collection so please look out for further information and updates!

In the meantime, Cheyenne, our PhD student, is recruiting educational professionals to understand their experiences supporting pupils with tuberous sclerosis complex. Please pass along this information to educational professionals (e.g. teachers, head teachers, learning support, pastoral support, SENCos) who you think would be best suited to participate in her study.

We are also recruiting children and families for another study to understand and identify educational experiences of children with tuberous sclerosis complex, and how the diagnosis impacts their experience in school.
